The Choir of St Mary’s were privileged to sing three services in two of the country’s most prestigious churches. A three day tour of London in August saw the choir sing a festal Eucharist and Evensong in St Paul’s Cathedral as well as an Evensong in
Westminster Abbey.
As reported by the Nottingham Post, the choir was so well received that the Reverend Andrew Hammond, Succentor at St Paul’s, has invited the choir back to sing next summer.
The choir, which sings services at St Mary’s, Nottingham every Wednesday and Sunday, comprises volunteers and choral scholars. The choral scholarship scheme has been successful in attracting some outstanding young musicians, many of whom have stayed in Nottingham after completing their studies.
Jonathan Stork, member of the choir and chair of the choral scholarship trustees, commented, “The scholarship scheme has helped the choir to become what it is today under the
direction of John Keys. We were delighted that a number of past choral scholars were able to join the choir in London illustrating the strong friendships and loyalties that the choir maintains.”
